2.10.2 About the challenge content #

The Magnet User Summit 2019 DFIR CTF Challenge was released to the public. This CTF was created by David Cowen, Matthew Seyer and Jessica Hyde. We’ll use this evidence and questions to demonstrate the fundamentals of digital forensics.

In order to play along you will need to download the artefacts:

Specifically, you will need to download the Windows E01 file and the associated text file (see the image below for the two files to download).

Note: It’s 9GB so make sure you grab these before you need them. We won’t be covering the other images in this class so you won’t need them.
